From BMBF to Ministry of the Future: A visible sign of realignment

For Zech Facility Management GmbH, we had the opportunity to implement a project that combines technology, architecture, and political communication in a new way: the renovation of the running text display at the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space in Berlin.

Located right on Kapelle-Ufer and in close distance to the main railway station, the site is one of the most prominent buildings of the German government in the capital.

The rebranding and reorientation of the ministry also brought with it new requirements for external communications. The existing running text display, which was technically no longer up to date and had been out of service for years, was no longer able to meet these standards. The original manufacturer was no longer on the market, and the installed technology was outdated.

Together with our customer, we developed a future-proof solution: a full-color LED screen with four lines and a total length of 25.92 meters. Compared to the old single-color running text display, the new system offers significantly more design freedom thanks to its striking, modern approach in public spaces.

The implementation involved a number of special features. The new system was installed directly on the building facade, exclusively with the help of industrial climbers, without interfering with the building envelope. We designed LED cabinets in a special format with a height of only 32 centimeters for the specific construction situation. In addition, the entire power distribution system was modernized and adapted to the current German Electrical Engineers' Association (VDE) specifications.

After three weeks of renovation, the new display is not only a technical upgrade, but also an expression of a new communicative self-image—visible, precise, and ready for tomorrow's tasks.
