Abstract_digital_background_with_technology_circuit_generated

Is fire protection even needed for an LED screen?
LED screens are electronic products, but are the only product that is used over a large area (similar to a drywall panel) in fixed installations and sometimes cover entire walls.
The legislator sets standards for the “fire behavior” of wall coverings and building products at various locations in the building.
LED screens are permanently attached to the building and their large surface area has an effect on the fire behavior (and therefore the performance of a building) of the respective building segment, they are a building product according to the definition of the building regulations of your region and the protection requirements of the regional building regulations.
The fire behavior of building products in Germany is verified in accordance with DIN 4102-1 or EN 13501-1. DIN 4102-1 or the EN 13501-1 proven.

So what are the minimum requirements for fire behavior?
According to all state building regulations, only products that are at least Normally flammable are

According to DIN 4102, “normally flammable” is class B2.
According to EN 13501, “normally flammable” is class D or E.
The law places higher standards on fire behavior according to the place of use in or on the building. In escape routes, for example, only products that are classified as non-flammable are classified (material class A).

Other examples include wall coverings in so-called places of public assembly, for example hardly inflammable (B1 or B and C).

An expert in preventive fire protection will provide you with precise information on the fire behavior required for your building project.
It is often said that LED screens do not need a defined fire behavior because they are an electronic product. LED screens are both electronic products and construction products in the relevant installation situation in which the law places the fire behavior requirements. LED screens can be test in accordance with standards in order to be able to make a correct statement about the fire behavior. Claims to the opposite made by other manufacturers are just that - claims.
